elevenfineart: ‘Wenda and the Ostriches’ by Norman Parkinson was featured in British Vogue in 1951. This posthumous limited edition print is featured in Parkinson’s ‘Elegance in Vogue’ exhibition at Eleven (through 24th March). Wenda Parkinson appears in many of her husband’s best-loved images. This photograph was taken on the couples’ first foreign location shoot together in Africa in 1951. As Wenda posed, the ostrich took off at great speed, carrying her away on its back. More than thirty years later, when filming Parkinson’s ‘This is your Life’ episode in 1983, she recalled how he had shouted after her “more profile Wenda, more profile!”
