artmastered: Kenneth Noland, Trans Shift, 1964, acrylic on canvas, 254 x 288.3 cm, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Source. The chevron composition was used frequently in Kenneth Noland’s work - see the MoMA’s Blue Veil for an example. Trans Shift reveals the artist’s experimentation with this symmetrical design: Noland keeps the base of the triangle firmly positioned along the top of the canvas, but he moves the point of the shape slightly to the left, creating an off-balance composition.
