showstudio: Red Bustle, Yohji Yamamoto, 1986. Nick Knight. I love this image in part simply because of the date. It’s from 1986. When you say 80s fashion you think more-is-more, power shoulders, overt sexuality, maximalism. Yohji Yamamoto’s take on the female form seems even more radical in hindsight. Today, the fashion landscape is cluttered - it’s hard to do something new. The wave that came in 1982 when Comme des Garcons by Rei Kawakubo and Yohji arrived on the scene is maybe one of the last true turning points fashion will ever experience. - Lou Stoppard, SHOWstudio Editor-at-Large
